Throughout both days of the weekend, the Business Hall will host a publisher fair, with publishers each hosting a stand! If you have a free half an hour across the weekend, visit the hall and have a chat with the publishers, they are there to help you in any way they can and answer any questions you may have! The publishers at the fair are listed below!

VINTAGE

Vintage.png

VINTAGE is an imprint of Penguin Random House. They publish both fiction and non-fiction, everything from new contemporary writing to classic literature. Their edition VINTAGE Classic is famous for its design, particularly a red spine that all of their books carry. They publish books by established award-winning authors and new emerging talents as well. VINTAGE won several awards for their creative marketing campaigns and book designs.

HODDER AND STOUGHTON

Hodder & Stoughton is an imprint of Hachette with more than 150 years of tradition. They focus on publishing a wide range of genres from both fiction and non-fiction. Their goal is to publish books that will offer their customers different perspectives of looking at the world. The publisher’s list of authors includes names such as John Grisham, Stephen King, Jodi Piccoult or David Nicholls. Their non-fiction list consists of a variety of topics and genres. Some of the most notable books they published are cookbooks from the Deliciously Ella series.

BLUEBIRD

Bluebird is an award-winning imprint of PanMacmillan, focusing on non-fiction. The list of their books consists of a wide range of topics, as they publish anything from an illustrated cookbook to a personal memoir. The most notable books they published include Pinch of Nom and books by Joe Wicks, Dr Michael Greger, Marie Kondo, Russell Brand, Oprah Winfrey or Melinda Gates. The goal of Bluebird is to make their readers happier and to help them have more fulfilling lives.

COMMA PRESS

Comma Press is an independent not-for-profit publishing house based in Manchester. They specialise in publishing short stories and fiction in translation. Comma Press publish collections by new and established authors and make sure that voices from all around the world are heard in their translated fiction. Their list includes award-winning publications such as The Iraqi Christ by Hassan Blasim, Tea at the Midland by David Constantine, You Should Come With Me Now by M. John Harrison, The Sea Cloak by Nayrouz Qarmout, and the first ever collection of science-fiction from Palestine, Palestine +100.

LAURENCE KING

Established in 1991, Laurence king is the most recognisable name in creative publishing. Their work focuses on publishing books related to creative arts and are well renowned for their books being incredibly well designed with both illustrations and photographs and for publishing poignant texts which often offer original social commentary. They join us at our festival as specialists in the design aspects of publishing and are here to provide information as to how you can get involved in their creative team, or just to help you learn a little bit more about why design is so important when creating a book.

CANONGATE

Canongate is an independent UK based publisher who have published well recognised authors and figures such as Patience Agbabi, Robert Webb and Yann Martel, author of Life of Pi. They pride themselves on publishing unorthodox and innovative fiction and non-fiction and consider their independence to be a source of utmost pride for the company. Able to make the bestseller lists as well as the larger publishers in the UK, they provide fierce competition in the world of publishing and join us at our festival to answer any and all questions about working with and for an independent publisher.

GREYWOLF PRESS

Greywolf Press are a non-profit publisher dedicated to the discovery and publication of the American based authors who are underrepresented in the world of publishing and whose works reflect the diversity which Greywolf aim to make commonplace in the world of literature. The largest non-profit publisher in the US, they’re dedicated to their poetry lists first and foremost but have expanded in recent years to include fiction and nonfiction writers as well. They join us to represent non-profit publishers and to answer any questions you might have about this less conventional form of publishing.

ALMA PUBLISHING

A newer publisher founded in 2005, they truly burst onto the scene in 2013 with their classics lists and from there they have secured their place in the world of publishing by producing over 70 new titles a year. The majority of their catalogue comes from translated works which are at the heart of Alma publishing. Aiming to bring a voice to non-English speaking writers they focus a lot of their energy into securing translations of well-loved books and bringing them to English audiences. Unique in their love and dedication to foreign language they join us at our festival to provide insight into the world of translated publishing, and how a newer publisher managed to secure their place in the UK publishing market.

AND OTHER STORIES

And Other Stories is an independent publisher founded in 2009 by Stefan Tobler, described by Max Porter as ‘the publisher of the decade.’ They produce contemporary fiction, specialising in translated works, and have published titles such as Swimming Home by Deborah Levy which was shortlisted for The Man Booker Prize 2012 and Signs Preceding the End of the World by Yuri Herrrera, winner of the 2016 Best Translated Book Award. And Other Stories publishes ‘adventurous and inspiring’ stories and is based in Sheffield, UK.

SALT PUBLISHING

Salt Publishing was founded in 1999 and publishes books ‘outside of the box.’ They began by publishing primarily poetry, but now focus on publishing contemporary British literature. In 2012, they published The Lighthouse, the debut novel by Alison Moore, which one the McKitterick Prize and in 2017 published The Clocks In This House All Tell Different Times by Xan Brooks which was shortlisted for the 2017 Costa First Novel Award. Salt is based in Norfolk and is regarded as a leading independent publisher in the UK.

PICADOR

Picador is an imprint of Pan Macmillan, founded in 1972. Throughout the years they have published many prominent authors such as Johnathan Franzen, Angela Carter and Salman Rushdie. Picador publishes a large variety of books including fiction, non-fiction and contemporary poetry, and was the winner of the 2019 British Book Awards.

LITTLE, BROWN

Little, Brown belongs to Little, Brown Book Group which is part of Hachette. They have published many famous authors which include the likes of Donna Tartt and Iain Banks and have a reputation for publishing ‘excellence and major bestsellers.’ The imprint is based in London and primarily publishes literary fiction, often in hardback format.
